Point Pleasant, NJ – Aboard the Independence II
Blue Crew Divers explores the beautiful and historic shipwrecks off the coast of New Jersey, departing from Point Pleasant, NJ aboard the Independence II. Our crew and fellow divers form a warm, welcoming community dedicated to helping one another safely and confidently explore the wrecks of our local waters.
These dives offer the full Northeast wreck experience—intact steel and wooden shipwrecks, dramatic structure, and ever-changing marine life shaped by Atlantic conditions. Wrecks often host schools of fish, seasonal pelagics, and classic Jersey-bottom surprises. Depending on conditions and regulations, divers may also encounter opportunities for spear fishing, lobstering, and the discovery of historic artifacts—a tangible connection to the region’s rich maritime past.
Diving depths typically range from 60–130 feet, making these dives best suited for experienced and properly equipped wreck divers.
Some charters are conducted as technical diving charters, involving planned decompression, extended bottom times, or advanced equipment configurations. Any charter designated as a technical charter will be clearly identified in advance, allowing divers to prepare appropriately and ensure they meet the required training, experience, and equipment standards.
New Jersey’s coastline sits at the crossroads of major shipping lanes, wartime history, and shifting Atlantic currents. Over centuries, this has created one of the densest concentrations of shipwrecks in North America, ranging from wooden schooners and early steamships to massive steel freighters and World War–era casualties.
What makes Jersey wrecks truly unique is their preservation and character. Cold water, depth, and seasonal conditions slow deterioration, allowing wrecks to retain recognizable features—hulls, boilers, winches, decks, and cargo—often resting exactly where history left them. These structures become thriving artificial reefs, attracting marine life and rewarding divers who take the time to explore them carefully.
Jersey wreck diving isn’t passive. It demands planning, teamwork, and respect for both the ocean and the past. In return, it offers real exploration, hands-on discovery, and dives that feel earned—every single time.
