About this trip

Inspired by the creatures, critters, cultures and people we’ve met along our journey, The Blue Crew wants to guide you on your pursuit, whether it be shipwrecks around the corner, lakes atop mountains, teeming reefs at 20 feet, or unexplored dive sites at 300 feet.

Join Chris & Blue Crew Divers as he guides our inaugural trip to Indonesia.  Your liveaboard adventure in Indonesia will take you through the famous Coral Triangle where diving opportunities are endless. Possessing the world’s highest marine biodiversity, it’s a lush mecca. From the rich plankton waters of the Komodo Islands and the beautiful and remote mushroom-shaped islands of Raja Ampat, Indonesia attracts life found nowhere else on earth.

Many of Indonesia’s regions are remote and exotic, only accessible by liveaboard. Off-the-beaten-track and away from the crowds, liveaboard guests will discover dive sites that very few other divers will get a chance to explore. Fewer divers and traffic also means more possible ‘big fish’ sightings throughout the region. You can also find Hammerhead hot spots here, where at certain times of the year schools of more than 200 Hammerheads have been witnessed.

Beyond providing some of the best diving on earth, Indonesia’s islands also have a long and fascinating history. Spices, foreign traders, colonial conflicts, wars, and earthquakes have all featured heavily in their checkered past. The stunning beauty of Indonesia’s enchanting islands both above and below the water will leave you with no doubt that this is a true natural wonderland. Indonesia is the ‘holy grail’ of dive destinations, truly one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Coral Triangle - Triton Bay

Triton Bay

Triton Bay really does feel like you are entering a time capsule from the past. The underwater landscape provides similarly impressive level of soft coral coverage as places like Misool while the marine life never fails to impress, with huge schools of untroubled trevallies & jacks, plenty of macro superstars, squadrons of Bumped parrotfish and ever-present turtles. Triton Bay's black coral forests are awesome in scale and never fail to impress, while above the water the landscape is also fascinating with lush green forests, stunning sunsets & sunrises, and a real sense that you are exploring a true wilderness. Not many Liveaboards visit this region and the sense of true exploration & privilege to visit this region is undeniable.

Coral Triangle - Misool

Misool

This area offers a wealth of biodiversity starting with the spectacularly beautiful reefs around Raja Ampat in some of the world’s most bio-diverse waters: 580 kinds of coral, 1,397 species of fish including 23 endemics, are just a few of the numbers used to define this area. Between Triton Bay area and Southern Raja Ampat, we visit where remote, unspoiled, and stunning underwater landscapes await, pristine beauty is staggering, including the Kiti-Kiti waterfall, and it is made all the more alluring by the lack of crowds.

Dive Experience Required

All divers must have a minimum of an Open Water Diver certification and 30 logged dives. It is recommended that divers be certified at least as Advanced Open Water Diver level and have some experience with currents.

Embarkation / Disembarkation

Kaimana (KNG) West Papua / Sorong (SOQ) West Papua

Boat departure begins at 1 pm on day 1 of the trip from Kaimana.

Return on the last day at 5 am to Sorong.

How to get to Kaimana (KNG), West Papua

To Kaimana (KNG): Currently Lion Wings are the only operator offering flights from Sorong to Kaimana. Their onward morning flight (10:30-11:50) is ideal for our trip schedule*

The easiest way to fly to Kaimana is by flying from Jakarta (CGK) through Sorong (SOQ), then taking the short onward flight to Utarom Airport, Kaimama.

Note: Kaimana is served by a small regional airport and airline delays and even cancellations ARE possible. For this reason, we STRONGLY recommend ALL guests arrive to Kaimana the day BEFORE trip departure & spend one night in a local hotel, where we will collect you on the morning of trip departure.

How to get to and from Sorong (SOQ)

It is easiest to fly through to & from Sorong (SOQ) via Jakarta (CGK), Makassar (UPG Ujung Pandang), Bali (DPS, Denpasar), or Manado (MDC). Recommended, via Jakarta.

From Jakarta: Overnight direct daily flights, with Batik Air / Garuda Indonesia, arriving to Sorong earlier morning. Lion Air & Sriwijaya Air have similar overnight flights but with a stopover in Makassar. We will be there to pick you up on arrival.

To Jakarta: Early morning direct daily flights, with Batik Air / Garuda Indonesia, arriving to Jakarta, which should allow enough time to schedule your international flight home. Lion Air also offer flights, some direct, others via Makassar.

Do I need a Visa?

Visa Exemption or Visa on Arrival (VoA); many countries now receive a free 30 days on arrival, some pay USD35 to obtain VoA, others will have to obtain Visa BEFORE Arrival. Visitors can now apply for an electronic Visa On Arrival(e-VOA) prior to your travel, making it super easy. See the official e-VOA for details. The Official eVisa website for Indonesia

Passport Information

Ensure your passport is in good order, has enough blank pages, is valid for at least 6 months, and that you are able to enter Indonesia. Check with your local Indonesia Embassy if unsure.

Mandatory Immigration, Customs Online

Since September 22, 2025, the Government of Indonesia has introduced a unified digital portal, named “All Indonesia”, to streamline immigration, customs, and health procedures into a single form, replacing multiple separate processes like SATUSEHAT (health declaration) and e-CD (customs declaration) online forms.

This is the link: All Indonesia

Travelers must fill out this form within 3 days (ideally 72 hours) prior to arrival. The process takes about 2.5 minutes to complete. Upon submission, a QR code is generated and sent via email, which must be presented to immigration/customs upon arrival. This process is free of charge.

Health & Vaccines

You should be up to date on routine vaccinations while traveling to any destination. Some vaccines may also be required for travel, while the risk is low some health professionals recommend travel vaccines for Hepatitis A and Typhoid.

West Papua, Ambon & the Banda Sea is a low-risk Malaria Zone; however, it is advised you take the proper precautions against malaria. The following anti-malaria drugs are considered safe with diving; Doxycycline or Malarone. Mefloquine (Lariam) is NOT recommended with diving.

Good preventative measures include DEET and long armed/legged clothing in evenings. If unsure about any health matters, please consult a diving doctor prior to your trip.

Payments onboard

They prefer Indonesian Rupiah however they can accept USD, Singapore Dollar, or Euros. If you wish to make onboard payments in another currency, please check in advance of departure. Please ensure ALL bills are in good order; New, NOT worn or torn and unmarked or they will NOT be accepted. Exchange rates will be determined at the time of payment and will differ for USD100/50 bills and USD20/10 bills. Credit card payments onboard can be accepted with a 4.5% merchant fee added.

Electrical Outlets

The boat has 3 pin UK standard plugs, 220v in every cabin, salon, dining area, and dive deck. International plugs plus USB sockets are available too. They also have some 110v adapters onboard.

Internet/Mobile Signal

Local Telkomsel is the best local card to buy available for tourists in Jakarta & Bali airports. Some areas closer to larger population centers such as Kaimana & Sorong have a fairly good 3G connection, once amongst the more remote, volcanic islands however there is limited mobile signal / internet access at best.

Halmahera has intermittent internet/ mobile signal. Telkomsel simpati sim card is the best and costs only 3USD plus credit to add on top! Make sure to have the Telkomsel agent set up your phone to ensure your internet package is activated successfully. For data roaming, please check with your network provider the service is available before your international flight.

The White Manta Explorer does have 24hr Satellite internet available onboard (price per person is $35 per 10GB card).

Domestic Flight Baggage Allowance

Most airlines allow 10-20kg/passenger checked luggage, & 7 kg carry-on. Additional weight is charged per/kilo (USD2-5/kilo). Maximum allowance between 20-30kg. Consult with your Travel Agent or Airline carrier (if booking directly) for actual details.

Weather & Clothing

Generally, throughout the day, light clothing such as shorts and T-Shirt should be enough. Most often it is hot and sunny with fine clear blue skies. However, in Raja Ampat, the Northwest monsoon can bring occasional brief but heavy downpours. You may want to bring along a waterproof jacket just in case. You may want to bring a light sweater or jumper for the evenings; however, the temperatures tend to stay fairly warm even after the sun goes down.

Crew Tips

We suggest you work on a basis of 5-10% of your trip price, or more if you wish to reward their excellent service, this is entirely up to you of course. (New USD bank notes or Indonesian Rupiah preferred).

Specialty Training Available

Check with your trip leader as PADI Specialty Diver course training is available. Most courses can be completed with 2-3 dives.
