Join Everette as we start out the new year in the Yucatan Peninsula island of San Miguel de Cozumel at the Iberostar Resort.  

What to expect

• Water temperature: typically warm enough for a 3 mm wetsuit for many divers, though some prefer 5 mm if they get cold.

• Visibility: often excellent, commonly very clear on the reefs.

• Conditions: Cozumel is famous for drift diving, so expect current; most dives are guided boat dives.

• Weather: January is dry-season/peak-season, so surface conditions are generally pleasant, but occasional wind or “norte” fronts can affect boat schedules.

• Marine life: reef fish, turtles, rays, eels, nurse sharks, and beautiful coral formations are common highlights.

• Best for: certified divers comfortable with drift diving.

• Palancar Reef — scenic walls, swim-throughs, strong Cozumel classic.

• Columbia Reef — coral formations and marine life.

• Santa Rosa Wall — popular wall dive, typically for comfortable divers.

• Paradise Reef — often easier and good for refreshers or night dives.

Are you ready to take the next step in your education and become an Advanced Open Water Diver? What makes this trip fantastic is it is easy to continue your diving career with specialty courses under the supervision of the Blue Crew pro team and many can be completed alongside the diving we will be doing.

There will be two boat dives each day. They will be two-tank boat dives that leave in the morning after breakfast and return for lunch at the resort.

For those wanting an additional dive in the afternoon, that could be arranged; however, it is not included as part of the package.

The dive center is located on the resort.

The weather in the Western Caribbean is remarkably consistent year-round. The air temperatures range from the 70’s F to low 80s in the winter months with nearly constant sea breezes. Water temperatures range from a low of about 72 degrees F in winter. There is normally some current at the sites we visit, and visibility is generally between 50 and 150 feet. Most divers are comfortable with a 5 mm wetsuit in winter.
